Some News

I have to admit I've been dreading this blog post, but I'm afraid the time has come for me to share the news that Burlap & Buttercups is shutting its doors (so to speak).  To explain the reason for this decision, I'm just going to share some excerpts from the e-mail I sent to B&B subscribers over the weekend:

It's with sadness that I'm writing to let you know that Burlap & Buttercups is closing its doors, effective in early May.  My husband and I made this difficult decision with a great deal of thought and consideration, reaching the conclusion that the significant time and energy this endeavor requires was taking too much of my attention away from our family.  Of course, we knew going into this that running a business is no small thing ~ but, quite honestly, we had no idea just how many hours of hard work I would need to invest.  As a mom of three young children (and a homeschooling mom at that!), the stress I was under was beginning to take a toll.  And because it was so important to me to provide high-quality products and customer service to my members, I had to acknowledge that I couldn't do that and also continue to be the best possible mother to my children ~ and that has to take priority.  These years when my kiddos are young are so fleeting.  I can always come back later and start my business again, but I won't be able to go back and raise my children again!  I simply don't want to have any regrets when it comes to my family.  Add to that the ever-increasing rise in shipping costs and manufacturer prices (something I know many other kit club owners are facing), and everything seemed to be pointing my husband and me in the direction of closing up shop.

As for the logistics of this move, the website will be pulled during the first few days of May ~ thus, there will be no May kit.  :(  However, the blog will stay up and challenges will continue through April.  Anyone who has outstanding gift certificates can still use them at the website through the end of the month.  After that, I'll be holding a PayPal-based sale through the blog after B&B officially closes, which will include past kits and a number of open stock items.  So keep your eyes peeled for that!  Whoever is the winner of our April challenges will have the opportunity to use their GC on these sale items.  And trust me: there will be some killer liquidation prices, so you won't want to miss it!

Thanks again ~ from the bottom of my heart ~ for being a part of Burlap & Buttercups.  It's meant more than you know.

I have complete assurance that this is the right decision ~ but I'm going to miss the many wonderful friends I've made through this business over the last year.  Thanks so much to each of you for visiting the blog and our Facebook page, participating in our challenges, and sharing your beautiful creations.

Keep scrapping!

Blessings to you all,
Rachel

Weekly challenge #3: negative space lettering

Hello lovely readers! It's me, Nathalie, here today to present you a new weekly challenge. Inspired by the current trend and the Ormolu tags found in this month Add-on, my challenge for you is to use negative lettering on your project. It can be premade as with those tags, or you can use a die-cutting machine if you have one or, you can hand cut the letters yourself as I have done in my example below:

My card, created using the April kit and vintage paper, was inspired by this pinned poster and this tutorial by Lexi Bridges.

Here are the details for this month's challenges: You're playing for a $15 gift certificate to Burlap & Buttercups. You can take on just one challenge per month, or you can participate every week to increase your chances of winning our giveaway. (And remember: You have the entire month to participate in any of the challenges introduced within that calendar month.) Any supplies can be used. To participate, simply enter a comment in the "Comments" section of our Challenge post, including a link to your newly created project.

We can't wait to see what you come up with! Wishing you all a crafty weekend!

Friday Challenge #2

Hi everyone!! Cassie here with this Friday's weekly Challenge :)  Hope everyone is enjoying their Friday-- I am so glad the end of the week is finally here.  My challenge for you is to create a layout or card that uses at least 5 different pattern papers!  The papers in the April kit all coordinate beautifully so this shouldn't be too hard for those of you that picked it up ;)

Here's my layout:

At last count I see 12 different patterned papers (different sides of the same sheet of paper count, but cardstock doesn't!) on this layout, so you guys should have no trouble using only 5 :)

Here's the dish about what you're playing for:

April Challenge #1 - Quilting squares

TGIF!! How is everyone's Friday so far? Hopefully you are having a great one and enjoying all of this pretty spring weather! It has been very warm here in the great state of North Carolina and I have already done my spring cleaning and have put away all of my quilts (which is one of the first things I use to warm me during the cold months). But while I was putting them away I started really noticing some of the pretty patterns that my hubby's grandmother had created in the many quilts that she has so lovingly made for us. So that got me to thinking about some of the pretty patterns in the April kit that would make a great quilted scrapbook layout. So for your first challenge of the month, I want you to create a quilt pattern from your papers. Then add it to a layout, card, or other type project.

Let me first show you what I've created for this challenge.

I looked online for some quilt patterns and fell in love with this simple but beautiful pinwheel pattern. It may look difficult but it really wasn't! Let me give you quick tutorial to show you how easy.

Start by cutting up some of those super cute squares from the Lily Bee paper or just cut 1" squares from any coordinating pattern papers.

Then cut those little squares in half from corner to corner.

For the bigger squares, I cut 12 - 2" squares of cardstock. Then start adding the triangle pieces in your chosen pattern. Last step is to add to your layout! See? I told it was easy! I really hope you give this a try! If you do and link your layout up here so we can see what you've created, you could win this......

Luv Seeing This

Hello!  I'm here to bring you some more eye candy from our April kit and add-ons.  Our Design Team is busy putting together their masterpieces using our latest supplies, and here's just a glimpse of the kind of creative genius you'll see when our April Gallery goes live!  I'm loving this gorgeous layout designed by DT member Aimee Kidd:

There's so much about this layout I adore ... from the color combo, to all the great layering, to that adorable photo of Aimee's snuggling kiddos!  And that's not even to mention the hearts she misted on the page!  LOVE it!!

Member kits are hitting the mail today, and I can hardly wait to see what you all do with your goodies.  :)

Before I go, I'm excited to announce the winner of our March challenges, randomly selected with the help of Random.org.  And the winner is ...

Mandi!

Mandi, you've won a $15 gift certificate to the Burlap & Buttercups store!  If you'll email me at info@burlapandbuttercups.com, I'll send your GC code to you.  :)

Thanks for stopping in today, everyone.  Happy scrapping!
